Committees of Presbytery

  • The Executive Board serves as the decision-making body between meetings of the Presbytery. Its 4-15 members are elected for set three-year terms by elders of the church at the regular semi-annual meetings of the Presbytery. They also serve as the legal representatives and officers of the corporation.

  • The Ministry Commission consists of 10 members, half ministers and half laity, who have care and oversight of ministers, Commissioned Lay Pastors (CLP’s), and Certified Christian Educators (CCE’s). Additionally, they provide leadership and pastoral care to congregations in crisis or which cannot organize a Session, and oversee the process for inquirers and candidates to become ministers and CLP’s. Co-chairs are selected from among the committee members.

  • The Permanent Judicial Commission (PJC) has seven members and serves as the trial court of the Presbytery in the event an ad hoc investigative committee files charges after investigating allegations or complaints that it receives. PJC members select a chair and a clerk if charges are filed.

  • The Nominating Committee is a three-member body that recruits and nominates candidates for all Presbytery permanent committees and commissions and commissioners to General Assembly, Synod, and other ecumenical bodies.

  • The Budget and Finance Committee is in charge of overseeing the finances, budget, and investment portfolios of the Presbytery and reviewing related policies. They also prepare the draft annual budget and recommend policies and actions to the Executive Board and Presbytery at-large.

  • The Property Committee supports congregations with property management, insurance, and maintenance issues. They also work to identify property-related liability issues and provide model policies for congregations.

  • The Personnel Committee oversees human resources-related matters, including approving job descriptions, interviewing prospective employees, determining benefits packages, managing the grievance process, and maintaining the personnel manual.
